MP hails latest vaccine figures
Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid hailed the latest UK vaccination figures which show over 40% of adults in the UK are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
As of 20 May, almost 40 million first doses and over 20 million second doses have been delivered, meaning over 40% of the population is now fully vaccinated.
The Oxford/Astra Zeneca (AZ) vaccine made possible through significant UK government investment is available at cost, with no charge for intellectual property.
Of the 1.5 billion vaccines delivered globally, 400 million have been the Oxford/AZ vaccine. Two thirds of the Oxford/AZ vaccines injected have been in low and middle-income countries including nearly 170 million in India.
Of the 67 million doses delivered through the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) programme, 65 million (97%) have been the UK Oxford/AZ vaccine.
Scottish Conservative MP for Banff and Buchan David Duguid said:
“I am proud to see that the UK vaccine rollout is continuing so rapidly, protecting our population and progressing our suppression of the virus.
“And I am equally proud of our vaccine record abroad, with 97% of COVAX doses being the Oxford/AZ vaccine.
“As the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock said yesterday, every taxpayer in Britain has had a hand to play in the development and now rollout of the Oxford/AZ vaccine and we should all be very proud of that British accomplishment.”
