MP welcomes move to Level 2 for Banff and Buchan
Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has welcomed the move to Level 2 for most of Scotland from 17 May announced by the Scottish Government yesterday (11 May).
Under Level 2, in-home socialising for up to six people from three households will be permitted, along with further reopening of hospitality, resumption of adult contact sports, cinemas, amusement facilities and small-scale events. Colleges and universities can resume blended models of learning, while face-to-face support services and outdoor non-professional performance arts can resume.
Relaxations in restrictions come as the UK Joint Biosecurity Centre recommended reducing the UK COVID alert level to level 3, agreed by all four UK Chief Medical Officers. The UK COVID Alert Level is different to the Covid Protection levels which determine local restrictions.
Scottish Conservative MP for Banff and Buchan David Duguid said:
“I welcome this further loosening of restrictions for Banff and Buchan as we now move from Level 3 to Level 2 from 17 May.
“Under Level 2, more socialising and leisure activities are permitted, and people taking advantage of those opportunities should continue to do so safely.
“Thanks to the efforts of the public, the world leading UK vaccine programme and the sterling service of our NHS and British armed forces, we are in this position to relax restrictions.
“The virus is still present however and not everyone has received a vaccine yet. So, we must continue to protect ourselves and each other by following the required social distancing and hygiene measures.”
