Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has welcomed the return of flights between Aberdeen and Gatwick next year.
Airline easyJet announced today that the direct link to London would resume in May 2021.
The route was axed in February last year, prompting a campaign led by frequent flyer Val Fry from Fetterangus and a petition backed by thousands of people.
Mr Duguid campaigned for the reinstatement of the route, meeting airline operators as well as the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps MP.
Responding to the announcement today, Scottish Conservative MP for Banff and Buchan David Duguid said:
"This is fantastic news. I have campaigned strongly for the reinstatement of this route since easyJet took the decision to stop services between Aberdeen and Gatwick in February last year.
"Thousands of people signed a petition calling for these flights to be brought back and will be very pleased to hear the route will start up again next year.
"Gatwick is a major hub for connections to long-haul flights around the world, as well as being a popular destination for business travellers heading to London from Aberdeen.
"I would like to congratulate my constituent Val Fry from Fetterangus for her successful campaign."
