Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has congratulated Deveronvale Football Club on winning a Scottish Football Association (SFA) grassroots award.
Deveronvale FC has been recognised as ‘Best Community Football Club’ for its efforts in promoting the game in the community and encouraging young people to take part.
The club provides football almost every night of the week for more than 300 boys and girls with a football ‘pathway’ from nursery age through to SYFA district football, while supporting local schools and working with charities and community organisations.
The annual SFA grassroots awards aims to recognise and reward people who make a difference to their local community. There is no award presentation event this year due to Coronavirus, but the achievement is being announced and celebrated on social media.
Scottish Conservative MP for Banff and Buchan David Duguid said:
“I was delighted to hear that Deveronvale has won this award.
“It is a fitting tribute to all the hard work of people involved with the club to provide opportunities for local boys and girls to play football.
“The club caters for youngsters from nursery level through primary and secondary school, with some form of training taking place every night of the week.
“Deveronvale is a clearly a club that operates at the heart of the community in Banff and it is great to see that recognised at a national level.
“Everyone involved should be very proud of this achievement, and I congratulate all of them – even if they have not been able to attend a ceremony this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”
