I was pleased to see the 59½ Peterhead Scottish Week was so successful after the lockdown of 2020 meant that year’s festival had to be held virtually.
The festival returned with a bang with the Red Arrows and another fantastic aerial display over the town.
The parade took place as normal and turned out to be one of the biggest and best in a long time.
It was also good to see the town rally behind the efforts and turn out safely in large numbers to join in the celebrations.
I am looking forward to next year’s 60th anniversary Scottish Week.
August sees Clan’s spectacular Light The North art trail with 50 stunning lighthouse sculptures installed across the northeast as the trail is officially launched on Monday 9 August.
76 miniature lighthouses decorated by school pupils will be displayed all over the north of Scotland including at Fraserburgh’s own award-winning Lighthouse Museum.
I look forward to seeing as many as I can across Banff and Buchan as I tour the constituency this summer.
That brings me on to this year’s summer recess.
As we move beyond level 0 from 9 August, I look forward to safely visiting as many places across the constituency as I can.
I will be offering more face-to-face surgeries again in my offices in Mintlaw and Banff and will still be available for virtual surgery appointments, as I have been throughout the pandemic.
Finally, I want to join with the whole community in congratulating and celebrating local Olympian, Neah Evans who won silver in the Women’s Cycling Team Pursuit in Tokyo.
This follows on from Mintlaw’s Kim Little and the Team GB women’s football team who made it to the quarter finals and I’m sure you will all join me in wishing Turriff’s Connor Morrison all the very best at the Paralympics later this month.
