MP urges EU citizens to apply for settled status
Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has urged eligible EU citizens who have not already done so, to apply for EU settled status before the deadline of 30 June.
A new UK Government campaign was launched last week - with targeted adverts on broadcast and social media - urging EU citizens living in the UK to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme as soon as possible.
Latest statistics show that more than 5.4 million applications have been made to the EU Settlement Scheme, with more than 4.9 million grants of status, delivering on the UK Government’s promise to secure the rights in UK law of millions of EU citizens to continue living and working here.
The latest report includes 268,500 EU citizens in Scotland who have received grants of status.
To date, nearly £8 million has been invested by the UK Government on public communications on the EU Settlement Scheme since it was launched in March 2019.
The Home Office also has a dedicated team of more than 1,500 people working on the EU Settlement Scheme, with support available seven days a week by telephone and by email. The EU Settlement Scheme uses cutting edge technology, including the EU Exit: ID Document Check app which allows people to apply from the comfort of their own home in as little as 15 minutes.
Scottish Conservative MP for Banff and Buchan David Duguid said:
“I want EU citizens who have made the UK their home to be able to continue living and working here.
“The EU Settlement scheme has been hugely successful since its launch in March 2019 and has seen almost 5 million people obtain settled status, including over 268,000 in Scotland.
“The deadline of 30 June is now approaching, so it is really important that eligible EU citizens apply for settled status as soon as possible.
“Free help is available 7 days a week if needed.”
