On Monday, the contest for the new leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party, reached its conclusion with Liz Truss named as the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Last week saw the completion of my annual summer surgery tour across Banff and Buchan. 

This is always a great opportunity to get out and about meeting people right across the constituency – and even more so after the previous 2 years of lockdown.

Last week saw the completion of my annual summer surgery tour across Banff and Buchan. 

This is a great opportunity to get out and about meeting people right across the constituency – even more so after the previous 2 years.

Earlier this month I hosted a public meeting at the Baden Powell Centre in Turriff to discuss healthcare issues in the area. 

The meeting was very well attended and I thank all the residents who took the time to come out and add to the discussion on this topic. 

In my last column I highlighted the latest tragic drugs deaths figures in Scotland which laid bare the scale of the issue. 

Since then, it was reported that alcohol related deaths in Scotland rose to 1,245 – the highest in 13 years and an increase of 55 compared to 2020.

It’s always great to get out and about to enjoy the various events Banff and Buchan has to offer throughout the Summer.

This Summer has been particularly special with many such events being cancelled in recent years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Later this month, I will be conducting my annual summer surgery tour after a two-year covid hiatus.

Earlier this week, I was delighted to meet the new Police Area Commander for North Aberdeenshire, Chief Inspector Sam Buchan, to discuss issues and concerns in the local area.
